Unofficial result of Bangkok gubernatorial election expected by 9pm

Election Commission (EC) chairman Itthiporn Boonprakong has forecast that the unofficial result of the Bangkok gubernatorial election will be known no later than 9pm tonight (Sunday) and that about 70% of eligible voters are expected to cast ballots.

Accompanied by Samran Tanpanich, the director of the Bangkok Election Commission, Itthiporn inspected a polling station at Suan Bua School in Phaya district this morning.

The EC chairman said that results of counts from all 6,817 polling stations are expected before 7pm, because the number of voters at each polling station has been decreased to 600,from as many as 1,000 in previous elections.

Unofficial results of the combined counts from all polling stations will be known no later than 9pm, but official poll results, for both the gubernatorial and council elections, are expected in seven to 30 days, if there are no complaints of election fraud or irregularities filed, he said.
