Two tourists missing after dive boat sinks in Andaman Sea

Two tourists remain missing, but 12 others were rescued after a dive boat sank at sea about four nautical miles from the Mu Ko Surin National Park, off Phang-nga province this morning.

The dive boat, called “Sawan Tour”, had carried 14 tourists on a diving trip around Torinla Island. The boat capsized and sank, but the reason for the foundering remains unknown at the time of this report.

A fishing boat, called “Pornsupranee”, rushed to the rescue and managed to pluck 12 tourists and crew frombo the water, but two others, a Thai and a foreigner, remain missing and are believed to have drowned. The rescue boat headed back to the mainland and was expected to arrive at Khura Buri pier in Phang-nga province at about noon.

Meanwhile, two rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) from the national park and one from the Royal Thai Navy were sent to Torinla Island to search for the missing people.
