Tourism minister hopes New Year appearances of world famous artists in Thailand will inspire the young and the disabled

Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn says that he is also looking at the non-financial benefits of the planned appearances of two world famous artists, Thai-born pop artist Lalisa “Lisa” Manobal of South Korea’s girl group band “Blackpink” and Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli at the New Year countdowns in Bangkok and Phuket respectively.

Explaining his logic, the minister said he might think differently from people who only consider financial gain, to determine whether a project is worthwhile, noting the 200 million baht price tag for the appearances of the two famous artists.

The economic figure is just one element, he said, adding that he also looks at the confidence boost to be gained from this event, which cannot be measured in monetary terms alone.

As for Italian opera singer Bocelli, who is blind, he said that the singer’s appearance could be inspirational for many disabled people in Thailand.

The minister also said that he is not only concerned whether the 200 million baht price tag for the events is worth the investment, but is more concerned with the non-financial and psychological benefits for Thai youths and the disabled.

Regarding the two artists’ New Year appearances, the minister said he had received confirmation that both artists will appear, in Thailand.
For Bocelli, he said that he would like him to perform at Sanam Luang, with the Grand Palace as the background, whereas Lisa will appear in Phuket.
