Three senior police officers, who were in charge of crowd control during the protest by the Khana Ratsadon group yesterday, have been abruptly transferred to “inactive” posts at the Operations Centre of the Royal Thai Police. No official reason was given for their sudden removal.

It is widely speculated, however, that the transfers were due to their failure prevent protesters from temporarily blocking the path of a royal motorcade, near Government House, yesterday afternoon.

The officers are Pol Maj-Gen Somprasong  Yenthuam, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Pol Maj-Gen Prasai Jittasonthi, Commander of First Division of Metropolitan Police and Pol Maj-Gen Manop Sukonthanapat, Commander of Security and Crowd Control.

The transfer order was signed by Pol Lt-Gen Pakapong Pongpetra, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

The three officers have also lost their posts at the Metropolitan Police Bureau, until there are changes to the order.
