Thanathorn files malfeasance charge against Election Commission

A malfeasance charge was filed today with the Criminal Court for Corruption Cases, by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, against the seven election commissioners in connection with their handling of the Future Forward party leader’s media ownership case.

The legal action came two days ahead of a ruling from the Constitutional Court, over Thanathorn’s holding of a substantial stake in V Luck Media Company, in violation of the charter which bars election candidates from holding media shares at the time of the registration of their candidacy.

Party spokeswoman Pannika Wanich said that the Election Commission (EC) had acted suspiciously by rushing the case to the Constitutional Court before the investigating panel had completed its probe.

She said that the election commissioners’ action had tainted Thanathorn’s reputation and led to his suspension from performing his duty as an MP by the Constitutional Court.

The court is scheduled to deliver its decision on whether to accept Thanathorn’s lawsuit on December 3rd.
