The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad issued a statement, posted on its Facebook page at around 2am on Wednesday, advising Thai people to avoid travelling to the city of Azad Kashmir, especially along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between India and Pakistan, and nearby areas during tightened security and tensions between the two countries.

The Embassy’s announcement came after the Indian Government, after 70 years, stripped Jammu and Kashmir of autonomous status via a presidential decree on Monday, just hours after imposing a massive security lockdown to quell any unrest.

The Embassy asked Thais in Pakistan and tourists not to go near the disputed areas due to the possibility of military clashes. They are also advised to contact the Embassy for help and advice 24 hours via Facebook.
