Thailand’s weather turns cooler on Tuesday

With the exception of the south, the rest of Thailand will experience colder weather from today (Tuesday), with temperatures forecast to drop from 3-5oC, Thailand’s Meteorological Department reported this morning.

The colder weather is attributable to the arrival of a new and strong cold front from China, now covering northern Laos and Vietnam, which is forecast to spread to Thailand’s north and north-east this afternoon.

In the north, the mercury is predicted to fall by 1-3oC, with minimum temperatures ranging from 11-14oC in the low lands and 2-10oC in mountainous areas. Frost may form in some places.

In the north-east it also will be colder, with temperatures forecast to drop by 3-5oC. Minimum temperatures range from 8-14oC in the low lands and 6-13oC at higher elevations. Maximum will temperatures range from 28-31oC.

The central region is forecast to cool by 2-4oC, to a minimum of 15-17oC. Bangkok and its suburbs will experience strong winds and cold weather, with temperatures dropping by 1-3oC, to a minimum of 18-21oC in the morning.

In the east there will be cold weather and strong winds, with the mercury forecast to drop by 2-4oC, to a minimum of between 16oC and 20oC. Waves at sea will average one metre near the shore and 1-2 metres further out to sea.

The eastern coast of the south will experience cold weather, with rain forecast in 30% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces. Minimum temperatures range from 19-25oC.  Rough seas are predicted in the Gulf, to the south of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Rain is also forecast for about 20% of the western coast in the south. Minimum temperatures will range from 22-26oC.
