Thailand has been invited to attend the upcoming Peace Conference in Ukraine to be held in Switzerland on June 15-16, according to an informed source.

Vice Foreign Minister Russ Jalichandra will represent the country at the conference. Thailand has expressed support for all initiatives seeking a speedy and peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine.

Thailand will join well over 100 countries in discussing ways to end the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Russia invaded the eastern part of Ukraine in February 2022.

When Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited Paris recently, he told French President Emmanuel Marcon that Thailand would attend the peace conference, in which France has played an important role.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was in Singapore and the Philippines over the weekend to ramp up support for the peace conference. He wants as many countries as possible to attend the conference to bring pressure to bear on Russia. China and Saudi Arabia are among the nations boycotting the conference.

Since Russia entered Ukraine in 2022, the situation has not improved and fighting continues. Thailand and other Asean members have appealed for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid for the victims of the conflict. Asean has also called for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine as the bloc stands ready to help bring peace to Europe.
