Thailand’s Disease Control Department reported 2,179 new COVID-19 cases and 15 additional deaths this morning (Tuesday).

It said that the new infections have raised total cases, since early last year, to 59,687. Total fatalities are 163.

Since the just beginning of this month, total infections have soared to 30,824.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the Emergency Medical and Health Situations Operations Centre will propose that the CCSA change the status of six Red Zone provinces to Dark Red, to reflect the latest severe COVID-19 situation and the need for tougher measures to cope with the threat.

The six provinces are Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Chiang Mai and Chon Buri.

The number of Red Zone provinces has been increased to 55, as proposed by the operations centre, with the remaining 16 classified as Orange Zones.

The Orange Zones are Phrae, Phayao, Nakhon Phanom, Trat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Chainat, Uthai Thani, Mae Hong Son, Phang-nga, Satun, Nan, Yasothon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Bung Karn.

Meanwhile, a voluntary curfew has now been sought in Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan, from 9pm to 4am, in Surat Thani from 10pm to 4am and in Samut Sakhon from 11pm to 4am.
