The weather department has announced the arrival of the cold season, beginning today, as the temperature in the northern part of the country has dropped below 23oC, the threshold for the designation of the cold season.

The department reported that, initially, the north will experience occasional light rainfall, while the southern region will experience heavy downpours.

Cold temperatures were recorded in several northern areas this morning, as the high altitude wind, up to a maximum of 3,500 metres above the ground level, has shifted from easterly to westerly in direction.

The season this year will not be as cold as last year and it is forecast to last until February, said the Weatherman.
