Thailand’s Second Army Region have released images of Cambodian troops caught in the act of planting anti-tank improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the vicinity of Hill 745, near Chong Bok border pass in Nam Yuen district of the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani.
The release of the set of images was intended to challenge the denial by the Cambodian military that its troops were responsible for planting the IEDs and that the Cambodian military does not support or condone any activities which may undermine peace and stability along the Thai-Cambodian border or relations between the two neighboring countries.
In its letter of denial, sent to the Thai military, the Cambodian military also said it could not confirm the origin of the claimed IEDs nor the identities of the troops accused of planting them.
Judging from the uniforms and insignia worn by the troops, the Thai army claims that the Cambodian troops are from the 21st infantry corps of the Second Region army.
The images constitute clear evidence that has raised questions about Cambodia’s claim that it cannot confirm the origin of the IEDs or identify the perpetrators.
