Cambodia’s 24-hour ultimatum has expired and the country is now stopping all cross-border imports of Thai fruit and vegetables, Khmer Times reported today.
The move is in response to threats and insults, allegedly made by the Thai military, amid the tense border dispute between the two countries.
Lieutenant General Sok Veasna, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, stated that all Cambodian border checkpoints have blocked the importation of all kinds of vegetables and fruit from Thailand.
Cambodian strongman Hun Sen issued the ultimatum yesterday, threatening to close all border checkpoints with Thailand and to ban the import of all Thai products, if Thai authorities did not fully reopen the partially-closed checkpoints.
Hun Sen later softened the ultimatum, though, banning only the importation of fruit and vegetables from Thailand.
