Officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province, removed transmission lines and electricity meters from the Ban Klong Luk border checkpoint, cutting the electricity supply to the Cambodian border town of Poipet.
A PEA official said that the move is in line with the Thai government’s policy to revoke the contract to supply electricity to Cambodia, after the Cambodian government announced that it does not need electricity from Thailand.
The official said that action will not cause a complete blackout in Poipet, especially the casinos there, because they rely on electricity from generators, but that unstable supply will lead to periodical blackouts.
Meanwhile, in Samut Prakan province, officials from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and local police searched a Singaporean company and seized several drones, as well as a counter-drone system.
NBTC Deputy Secretary-General Trairat Wiriyasirikul said that all the drones, counter-drone and tracking systems have been impounded, pending an inspection by customs officials as to whether they have the correct import permits.
Citing the Radio Communication Act, he said that an individual is barred from importing, exporting or trading in radio communication equipment without a permit from the authorities concerned.
Violators are liable to a maximum fine of 100,000 baht and/or five years in prison if convicted.
