Ending transnational scams has been added to the national agenda, to be dealt with decisively and in earnest, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced yesterday after chairing a closed-door meeting of the Cybercrime Prevention and Suppression Board.
He said that the transnational scam problem will be discussed at the Cabinet meeting today, at which all agencies concerned will represented to share their views and recommendations on how to deal with the problem collectively and effectively.
He disclosed that the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission informed the board meeting that it has cut internet connections to all areas in two neighboring countries known to shelter online scam operations.
The prime minister also disclosed that there are currently about five subcommittees dealing with transnational scam networks, adding that all of them will be merged into a single organisation.
He said that internet connections and electricity supplies to Cambodian areas, suspected of sheltering scam call centres, will be cut immediately.
He urged opposition parties to supply any information they may have about transnational scam networks, which would be very helpful to the government in its efforts to suppress the illegal activities.
The prime minister stressed that he will also not hesitate to take drastic action against politicians who are found to be implicated in involvement with transnational scam syndicates.
