Miss Grand International’ (MGI), a Thai-owned international beauty pageant franchise, has revoked the title and rights of Cambodian beauty queen Pich Votey Saravody for violating the organisation’s code of ethics.
The revocation is effective immediately, according to an announcement issued yesterday.
Saravody, who was 5th runner-up at ‘Miss Grand International 2022’, has been accused of spreading false information and making defamatory public statements about the MGI organisation in a series of social media posts and videos.
Her posts have allegedly caused significant harm to the reputation, image and credibility of the organisation.
In her posts, she expressed support for Cambodia, amid the ongoing border tension between Cambodia and Thailand.
The organisation announced that it considers this conduct unacceptable and has exercised its right to revoke her title without prior notice.
Effective immediately, Saravody is no longer entitled to hold, claim or associate herself with the Miss Grand International title in any form.
She has also been instructed to remove all references to her former status from her social media platforms within two days, including images and videos displaying the MGI crown, sash, logo or affiliations with other titleholders.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Saravody criticised the decision, writing: “This reveals the true colors behind MGI — a platform that has shown discrimination instead of dignity… This is a clear contrast to what a real pageant should be; one that uplifts, empowers and unites.”
