Leicester City FC have been relegated from the Premier League just seven years after a spectacular title win and a 2-1 triumph over West Ham on Sunday. The team’s chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, of King Power duty-free fame, said he would fight on because this is “not the end of the world”.

“I will do everything I can to return the team to the Premier League next season. There is a lot of hard work ahead of us. I wish to thank all the fans for their support throughout,” Aiyawatt said.

Leicester City were promoted in 2014 and shocked the football world by winning the Premier League title in the 2015-2016 season, but they have been unable to rediscover that winning form since.

Aiyawatt took the chairmanship of the Leicester City FC after his father, Vichai, and four others were killed in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium in Leicester on October 27, 2018.

Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League, despite a 2-1 victory over West Ham United, as Everton beat Bournemouth 1-0 to avoid relegation on the final day of the season.

“It’s hard to take. We knew it would be a tough ask. We knew we had to win our game and hope something went for us. It didn’t,” Leicester captain Jonny Evans, who was benched for long period during the season through injury, told Sky Sports.
