A Thai Criminal Court jailed a human rights lawyer for four years today (Tuesday) for insulting the monarchy.

Anon Nampa, 39, was convicted under the country’s controversial lèse majesté laws over a speech he made during a demonstration in Bangkok in 2020.

The Bangkok Criminal Court ruled that Anon’s address to a group of protesters at the Democracy Monument on October 14^th, 2020 amounted to an act of lèse majesté, as defined by the law.

Anon was also fined Bt20,000 for violating an emergency decree in effect at the time.
