Thailand’s Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai will lead a high-level 40-member delegation on a five-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, beginning today, an informed source said on Sunday.

The delegation is comprised of officials from various ministries and representatives from the private sector. The Prayut administration is currently the caretaker government, as Thailand awaits the formation of the new government following the May election.

This official visit will further strengthen the bilateral ties and further promote economic relations and investment.

During the visit, Don is scheduled to meet with several senior Saudi officials, including his counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition, he is also scheduled to hold talks with Yasir Othman Al-Rumayyan, Governor of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), Jassim al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Thailand and Saudi Arabia normalised relations in January last year after more than 30 years of frozen ties. Since then, the two countries have ramped up cooperation in all areas, especially in economic and investment affairs

During the visit, the representatives of Thai state enterprises and the private sector will have the opportunity to discuss and identify common projects on which both sides can collaborate. The scheduled roundtable between the Thai and Saudi private sectors will focus on green energy, the petrochemical industry, construction materials and packaging, agriculture, food, tourism and wellness, among other things, according to the source.

Representatives from Thai state enterprises and private sector joining the trip include the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, PTT, the Eastern Economic Corridor, the Board of Investment, Charoen Pokphand Group, Centara Hotels & Resorts and Indorama.
