Thai Charter Court rejects Transport Minister’s plea to withdraw injunction

The Constitutional Court has dismissed a petition, submitted on April 11th, from Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob seeking the withdrawal of an injunction ordering him to cease performing his duty as a minister on March 3rd.

In dismissing Saksayam’s petition, the court ruled that there is no additional evidence that would justify withdrawing the injunction.

Opposition MPs accuse Saksayam of holding a majority stake in the Buri Charoen Construction Limited Partnership, in violation of Section 187 of the Constitution and the law regarding shareholdings by ministers. They submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court through the House Speaker, demanding that he should be stripped of his ministerial portfolio.

The court accepted the petition and issued the injunction.
