Thai athletes at ASEAN Para Games 2022 get warm welcome home from fans

The 518 Thai athletes competing at the ASEAN Para Games 2022 in Solo, Indonesia, were given a rousing welcome upon their arrival at Suvarnabhumi international airport this evening (Sunday).

The Thai team came second in the medal ranking, after thehost Indonesia, bagging 317 medals, including 116 gold, 111 silver and 90 bronze. Indonesia won 426 medals, including 175 gold, 144 silver and 107 bronze.

The medals for the Thai team were won in:

-Track and field (42 gold, 30 silver and 32 bronze)

-Swimming (23 gold,29 silver and 24 bronze)

-Table tennis (19 gold, 21 silver and 14 bronze)

-Boccia (8 gold, 5 bronze)

-Power-lifting (5 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze)

-Wheel-chair tennis (5 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze)

-Archery (4 gold and 4 silver)

-Badminton (3 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze)

-Goalball (2 gold) Judo (1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze)

-Cerebral Palsy football (1 gold)

-Sitting volleyball (2 silver)

-Chess (2 bronze)

Maitree Kongruang, deputy secretary-general of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand said that he is proud of the performance of the Thai athletes, even though they might not have performed well in some sports.

He said, however, that the team must improve in some sports because there are several other competitions in the pipeline, such as ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia, the Asian Para Games in Beijing next year and the Paralympic Games.
