Suspect in shooting of protester at Din Daeng intersection in police custody

A man, who is suspected of shooting a young protester at Din Daeng intersection on August 14th, is being held in police custody following his arrest in Bangkok’s Din Daeng area, according to Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Pol Maj-Gen Piya Tavichai today (Thursday).

The suspect, identified by police only as “Chutipong”, denied that he shot the 15-year old, but admitted that he is the person seen in surveillance images from the Din Daeng intersection area.

Pol Maj-Gen Piya said that, after the shooting, which occurred during a protest by the “Talugas” group, the suspect fled and took refuge in the western province of Kanchanaburi, adding that police, accompanied by “Chutipong”, searched his house in Bangkok and those of his friends to look for the weapon used in the shooting.
