Suspect in Bangkok shopping mall shooting taken into custody

The suspected gunman, who allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife and wounded another person at a beauty clinic in the Century Plaza shopping mall near the Victory Monument in Bangkok on Tuesday, has been arrested by police in Phetchaburi province.

 

The suspect, identified as Danusorn Noomcharoen, was apprehended by a team of police from the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Phya Thai police station at a rented house in Phetchaburi province at dawn today.  He has been taken to Phya Thai police station for questioning.

A pistol and 32 rounds of ammunition were seized from the rented house.

 

After the shooting, which took place at about 3.30pm in the crowded mall, police searched a rented room in the Rajadamri area, where the suspect is believed to have been staying, and found several letters written by the suspect describing his love affair with the victim.

Police also checked the suspect’s Facebook page and found that he had complained about his ex-wife seeing another man.

 

Pol Col Krisana Pattanacharoen, the deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, said that the national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, has praised the police team for their rapid apprehension of the suspect.

The suspect is facing charges of premediated murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, carrying firearms in public without a license and discharging a firearm in public.
