Summer storm warnings for most of Thailand on Thursday

People living in Bangkok and the rest of the country, with the exception of the south, are advised to brace for thunder storms, strong winds, hail and possible lightning strikes today (Thursday), as a result of summer storms, according to the Meteorological Department.

Places to be avoided are open fields, under big trees or unstable bill boards, said the department, as it advised people in these areas not to wear metallic ornaments or use their cell phones during thunder storms. Farmers are also advised to take extra care of their animals and to take measures to protect their crops.

Northern provinces expected to see summer storms today include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanuloke and Phetchabun.

North-eastern provinces include Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakhon Nakhon, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Roi-et, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

Central provinces include Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Bangkok and its peripherals.

Eastern provinces include Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

More rain is forecast for the south and fishermen and sailors are being advised to exercise caution while at sea in the Gulf, where waves are expected to reach two metres in stormy areas.
