Three police officers were injured, one of them seriously, in a landmine explosion near a water pump, about 150 metres from their base in Muang district of Narathiwat province this morning.
According to a police report, the three officers left their base in Village 2 in Namangtayor sub-district to check a water pump next to a pond.
One of the officers, Pol Sub-Lt Chiarapong Charoen, stepped on a landmine, believed to have been planted by insurgents. The blast severed his left foot and injured the other two, Pol Sub-Lt Atithep Rosmalee and Corporal Thanabat Thongkiew.
All the injured were rushed to the district hospital.
