The Sungai Kolok district office has moved its border passes service to other districts in Narathiwat province, following the fatal attacks on March 8 which damaged most of its buildings.
Subiyan Daemohleng, Sungai Kolok district chief, said that those who wish to apply for a border pass to enter Malaysia must do so at one of 12 other districts in the province, preferably at Tak Bai or Sungai Padi.
Today is Subiyan’s first day as Sungai Kolok’s district chief, succeeding Anirudh Buaon, who has been promoted to Narathiwat's deputy governor.
Subiyan explained that the district office used to issue around 300 border passes daily, adding
“The attacks have severely affected the service and other district office operations. I am now in discussions with provincial authorities regarding the necessary equipment and supplies, as we plan to resume border pass issuance in the rear building, which was not severely damaged.”
The process of returning to a full service will take about a month, the new district chief said.
Other services, including those of the revenue department, are also suspended due to the attacks.
