The army has been hunting for a suspect who escaped from his escort detail on the way to be questioned in Yala province yesterday evening. One soldier died and three other were injured in the escape.
The suspect was identified as Hamdee Tohma, who is wanted relating to bomb attacks in Pattani and the theft of Bt1.2 million this year.
Hamdee was arrested yesterday in Pattani and the soldiers were assigned to escort him to the Command Centre of the Royal Thai Police Forward Post in Yala.
An initial investigation indicates that, while the vehicle carrying the soldiers and the suspect was travelling on Highway No 418 in Pattani’s Nongchik district, the suspect grabbed the steering wheel, causing an accident that that killed or injured the soldiers.
The deceased soldier was identified as Ranger Pairote Prappram, who died at the scene.
