Siriraj and Thammasat University hospitals have decided to return the three million baht donation given to each of them by whistle-blower Chuwit Kamolvisit.

Dr. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj University Hospital, said today (Friday) that he had not spoken with Chuwit before he donated the three million baht to the hospital.

He said that, even though the donation was intended for public benefit, if it is connected with illegal activities, the hospital cannot accept it.

The six-million baht donation to the two hospitals, paid on March 15^th by Chuwit, became a controversial issue on social media after Sittra Biabungkerd, secretary-general of the People’s Lawyer Team for Youth and Society Foundation, alleged that the money was given to Chuwit by two unidentified police generals, who visited Chuwit’s Davis Hotel in the Sukhumvit area on February 3^rd, supposedly to convince the whistle blower to stop exposing the activities of another police officer, identified as “Inspector Sua”, who has been accused of running a multi-million baht online gambling network.

Sittra claimed that the money came from “Inspector Sua” and alleged that Chuwit also received 50 million baht in digital currency from the police officer.

In his Facebook post today (Friday), the former massage parlour tycoon said that he will give the returned the six-million baht in donations back to the police, but he denied the lawyer’s claim that he had received 50 million baht in digital currency.
