Serial petitioner Srisuwan remains defiant after his association is dissolved

Serial petitioner and political activist Srisuwan Janya has vowed to continue checking the performance of political parties and politicians, despite the fact that the Provincial Administration Department (PAD) has dissolved his organisation, the Association to Protect Thai Constitution (APTC).

On Friday, PAD Director-General Manrat Ratanasukon issued an order to disband the association, which was registered on May 13th, 2009 in Bangkok, on the grounds that three founding members of the association claim that they have never been members and two of them did not attend the first meeting of the founding members on May 26th, 2008.

As such, the department decided to revoke the license of the association, as it does not meet the legal requirement of at least 10 founding members to apply for registration.

Srisuwan, to date the secretary-general of the APTC, said today (Saturday) that he is not perturbed by the PAD’s order and will continue with his duty in the public interest.

“I cannot spell the word “withdraw”, said Srisuwan, adding that he will lodge a complaint with the Central Investigation Bureau, seeking an investigation into the conduct of a student organisation in Thailand’s Deep South, called Pelajar Kebangsaan Patani, which is affiliated with the PerMAS network, for its proposal to organise a referendum to gauge the opinions of the majority Muslim population in the restive region as to whether they want the three southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat and some parts of Songkhla to separate from the kingdom of Thailand.

Srisuwan said such a referendum is unconstitutional and constitutes a violation of national security.
