Thousands of protesters are marching toward the Government House in a surprise move that is seen as a stepped-up effort to put pressure on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The protesters started rallying at the Victory Monument in late afternoon and at around 5.30 pm were told to move to the Government House.

Protest organizers had arranged for the rally through the social media but gave no specifics about their plan.

At press time, the protesters were marching on Phyathai Road to head for the Government House.
