Protesters begin march to Government House

Hundreds of protesters have begun a march from the Democracy Monument on Rajdamnoen Avenue toward the Government House.

They were stopped briefly at Panfah Lilas intersection where police set up a blockade.  After a round of negotiations, the police allowed the marchers to pass through toward the Government House which is about one kilometer away.

The protesters ignored a warning by a police officer who told them on a loudspeaker to turn back to the Democracy Monument.  He said their gathering was unauthorized and was in violation of the law on public gatherings.

The march was under a watchful eyes of hundreds of policemen who stood between them and a crowd of people in yellow shirts who turned up to greet the motorcade of HM the King which was to pass through the avenue.  HM the King was scheduled to preside over a religious ceremony at the Emerald Buddha Temple.
