Thai inmates may watch World Cup 2022 football matches up to 9pm, but without gambling or quarrelling, according to Aryut Sinthoppan, director-general of the Corrections Department.

He said that the privilege will, however, depend on whether their prisons have televisions.

He warned that inmates must not bet on the matches and must not fight during the broadcasts.

As a New Year’s gift to the inmates, he said all prisons and remand homes will be open to visits by family members from December 30th to January 2nd, but visitors must strictly comply with the safety standards of the Public Health Ministry.
