Twenty-two Ratsadon core leaders and followers, being tried on lèse majesté and other charges in connection with protests at Thammasat University and Sanam Luang last year, were brought to the Criminal Court from their remand prisons this morning (Monday) for a pre-trial hearing.

Today’s hearing is to examine all evidence which, according to the law, must be done in the presence of the 22 defendants, among them Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak, Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul, Panupong Jadnok, alias Mike Rayong, human rights lawyer Arnon Nampa, Chatupat Boonpatthararaksa, alias Pai Doadin and Chaiamorn Kaewwiboonpan, alias “Ammy”.

Before entering the courtroom, Parit reportedly shouted to followers and members of the media that the court could jail him, but could not jail the truth.

Asdang Nutcharat, a lawyer at the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights, said that the court will also consider requests from some Ratsadon leaders to transfer them from Thonburi remand prison to Bangkok remand prison.

He added that he will also consult the court about the decision to remand Parit which, he insisted, is unconstitutional.

In the afternoon, the court will consider the contempt of court charges against Chinnawat Chankrachang and Attaphol Buapat, who were seen in an online clip lying on the floor of the courtroom during a court session.
