In his speech, responding to His Majesty the King’s royal command formally appointing him as prime minister at the Government’s House today (June 11), General Prayut Chan-o-cha promised to perform with honesty and integrity to make Thailand prosperous and keep Thais happy and healthy.

The Prime Minister said that he will listen to the voices of the people and dedicate his government to eradicating corruption, reducing inequality and elevating the welfare of the people.

He also expressed his intention to provide opportunities for the younger generation to participate in national development to keep up with the digital era.

Gen Prayut specifically emphasized his commitment to promoting a peaceful environment for a unified society based on love, unity and compassion, while safeguarding the dignity of the institutions of State, Religion and the Monarchy.

The prime minister mentioned the important roles of the private sector and encouraged them to continue to support the new government.

 

The Prime Minister’s full speech (translated):

“His Majesty the King’s Royal Decree, granting permission for me to assume the position of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, is an unprecedented honour and blessing in my life. My family and I will forever owe a debt of gratitude for His Majesty’s kindness and I will perform my duty in accordance with His Majesty’s proclamation.

I affirm that I will dedicate myself to public service with honesty and integrity in pursuit of the greater good of the country and the people of Thailand.

I will listen to the voices of the people while fulfilling my duty to move forward and develop the country in all economic and social aspects, including eradicating corruption, reducing inequality and elevating the welfare of the people, especially those in the agricultural and commerce sectors, through effective and transparent government spending with cooperation from the private sector.

I will improve the capability of our human resources in accordance with internal and external influences and provide opportunities for the younger generation to participate in national development in order to ensure national advancement in the digital era.

I will promote a peaceful environment for a unified society based on love, unity and compassion so that Thai people can live with stability and happiness, and I will safeguard the dignity of the institutions of State, Religion and the Monarchy, which are deeply cherished by the people of Thailand.

I wish to thank all senators and members of parliament for performing their duties for the nation, and to political parties that gave me the opportunity to be the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, to continue to serve the country and all Thai citizens.

Finally, I would like to thank all Thai citizens, civil servants, members of the police, army personnel and all sectors of society, including civil society and the private sector, for all the cooperation extended to my government in the past and I profoundly hope that you will persist as a force that uplifts and motivates the future government to lead Thailand towards a peace that is stable, prosperous and sustainable. Thank you.”
