Prayut top choice for premiership, Pheu Thai still most popular: Nida Poll

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha still tops the list of ideal candidates as the next prime ministet, while Pheu Thai Party remains the most favourite choice, according to a new poll by Nida Poll of National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).

These are findings from Nida Poll’s fourth opinion survey on the same topic as to whom people would want as the new prime minister.

The opinion survey was carried out on September  17-18 with 1,251 eligible voters representing voters of all age ranges, education backgrounds and occupations in all regions of the country.

Gen Prayut came top with 29.66% who think he is the most suitable candidate for the next premiership, while Pheu Thai Party heavyweight Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan came second with 17.51%.

Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit came third with 13.83% while Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva came fourth with 10.71%.

However, when asked which party they favoured to win the new election with the highest number of votes and lead the formation of a coalition government, the highest percentage of the respondents (28.78) chose Pheu Thai.

Phalang Pracharat Party came second with 20.62%, followed by Democrat Party with 19.58%. Future Forward Party came fourth with 15.51%.

Most people (61.63%) however said they would prefer new political parties, politicians and policy, which they believed would bring betterment to the country, while only 37.49% of the respondents were more confident in old political parties and their experience.
