Prawit claims there is no secret deal to form alternative government

Palang Pracharath party leader Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has categorically denied that his party is in a secret deal with the Pheu Thai party to form an alternative government, which he described as “pure speculation”.

He said that the possibility was floated by the media, adding that the party which won the most seats in the House should have the right to form a government.

He declined to give an answer, however, when asked whether his and other parties, which are not part of the Move Forward coalition, will still stick together.

General Prawit, who is also a deputy prime minister in the current administration, said that his party has not discussed how to vote this Tuesday, in the selection of a new House speaker and two deputies.

He said they will wait until it is clear who the candidate(s) for the House speakership will be, before deciding for whom it should vote.

He also declined to comment on whether he had met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha recently, in his capacity as chair of the National Strategic Committee.
