Pollution in 19 areas in Bangkok and its peripherals is above safety levels today, with Tambon Mahachai, in Muang district of Samut Sakhon province, being listed as the worst, with 72 microns (micrograms per cubic metre) of PM2.5 in the air, compared to the safety threshold of 50 microns.

The coordinating centre to resolve air pollution problems, of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Ministry of  Natural Resources and Environment, measured the air quality in Bangkok and is neighboring provinces at 11am today (Sunday).

The results are as follows:

• Hirunrujee district of Bangkok, 52 microns
• Kanchanapisek Road in Bang Khun Thian district of Bangkok, 59 microns
• Lat Phrao Road in Wang Thong Lang district of Bangkok, 54 microns
• Khlong Sam Wa district in Bangkok, 51 microns
• Charunsanitwong Road in Bang Phlad district of Bangkok, 53 microns
• Rama 2 Road  in Bang Khun Thian district of Bangkok, 53 microns
• Sukhumvit Road in Phra Khanong district of Bangkok, 55 microns
• Sihaburanakit Road in Min Buri district, Bangkok, 51 microns
• Srinakharin Road in Prawet district of Bangkok, 55 microns
• Ratchadapisek-Tha Phra Road in Prawet district of Bangkok, 52 microns
• Charoen Nakhon Road in Khlong Sarn district of Bangkok, 54 microns

Poor air circulation and stale air are blamed for the excessive accumulation of PM2.5 in the atmosphere.

The centre also reported an excessive amount of PM10, measured at between 52 and 126 microns in Tambon Mahachai,due to a cold front from China.
