PM-designate Anutin Charnvirakul today insisted that his Cabinet lineup will not be unattractive, and will be composed of professionals ready to work immediately, chosen for their experience and dedication.
Anutin, who was elected as the new premier in a parliamentary session on Friday, was speaking as he introduced three outsiders who will serve in his Cabinet:
- Sihasak Phuangketkeow, former permanent secretary for foreign affairs: foreign minister
- Ekniti Nitithanprapas, director-general of the Treasury Department: finance minister
- Atthapol Rerkpiboon, former president and CEO of PTT Plc: energy minister
Sihasak said that Thai-Cambodian problems were important and required a long-term foundation. Rejecting the notion that the matter was a “hot potato,” he said all issues must be treated with due importance.
Anutin said the selection of Sihasak should reassure both the diplomatic and business communities, as he is highly respected internationally.
Asked about short-term economic stimulus measures, Anutin stressed that Ekniti, the incoming finance minister, has long experience and has held top positions, including director of the Fiscal Policy Office and director general of the Revenue, Excise, and Treasury Departments.
“With such a background, he is well placed to coordinate with career officials and ensure continuity,” Anutin said.
On the possible revival of the Khon La Khrueng co-payment scheme initiated during Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s administration, Anutin said everything is possible if it is beneficial and meets public demand.
Anutin also reiterated that the Cabinet lineup “will not be unattractive” but will be professional and ready to work immediately.
Asked about the overall image of his Cabinet, he described it as professional and harmonious, stressing that internal divisions seen in past administrations would not be repeated.
He said all ministers would work with shared goals and unity, rather than pursuing party interests.
