Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra said that the People’s Party, as a self-proclaimed party of the new generation, should have been more creative and reliable rather than engaging in a bid to include his name in the censure debate.
Thaksin said he was neither an MP nor a minister, so he did not understand the reason behind the party’s insistence on mentioning his name in the motion to grill PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
This was the first time Thaksin gave an interview on the move to include his name in the no-confidence motion.
At first, Opposition Leader Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut of the People’s Party refused to remove Thaksin’s name, as requested by House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha.
Natthaphong stood firm in his refusal until the House Speaker hinted that he would not put the motion up for debate if Thaksin’s name remained in it.
Yesterday, Natthaphong changed his mind and agreed to omit Thaksin’s name from the motion.
“Maybe the People’s Party wishes to discredit the government and plan for the next generation. Please be patient; it is not yet time for an election campaign,” Thaksin said.
Now that his name has been removed from the motion and the opposition plans to refer to him as 'that man,' Thaksin said they could say whatever they liked but urged them to be smart about it.
