One of Thailand’s anti-establishment protest leaders reported to Thung Mahamek police in Bangkok this morning, to acknowledge charges related to the protest at the German Embassy on October 26th.
Passaravalee “Mind” Thanakitvibulphol was charged with sedition, in accordance with Section 116 of the Criminal Code, and several other charges. Four other demonstrators were also charged by the police.
The engineering student told the media today that she is not worried about the charges filed against her, adding that she understands that the police are just doing their duty. She believes that she has done nothing wrong and has simply expressed her political opinion.
Supanut Boonsod, a lawyer from the Centre of Lawyers for Human Rights, said that he will challenge the police charges, on grounds that Passaravalee, and the other protesters, did not cause any disturbance at the German Embassy and they simply exercised their freedom of expression.
Several other protest leaders have been charged by the police, for their roles in recent protests across the country. Protest leaders, such as Parit Chivarak, Anont Nampa, Panupong Jardnok and Panasaya Sitthijirawattanakul, are each facing multiple charges and all, except Anont, are still being held on remand.
