People’s networks in Songkhla province have called on the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Council to launch an investigation into the conduct of one of its members, Siradanai Plaiduang, who is accused of assaulting a police officer during a municipal election at a polling station in Muang district on Sunday.
In their letter, the networks stated that expelling Siradanai would set an example and discourage others from committing similar offenses.
According to council regulations, a two-thirds majority vote is required to expel a sitting member.
Siradanai and six alleged accomplices reportedly attacked Nisathit Kongthep, a border patrol police officer assigned to maintain peace and order at polling station 6 in Pawong sub-district.
The incident began when the officer stopped one of Siradanai's men from taking photographs inside a polling booth—a prohibited act under election law. Siradanai allegedly returned later with more men and violently assaulted the officer, who had to be hospitalized.
Meanwhile, Pol Maj-Gen Seksant Churangsan, commander of Songkhla provincial police, said that investigators have added a charge of criminal association against all seven suspects. They were already facing charges of assault and obstructing officers in the performance of their duty..
