Prachin Buri Governor Veera Dee-on made an abrupt U-turn, rescinding his order appointing a Chinese national as his official advisor, after the appointment was exposed by the US-based investigative website “CSI LA”, renowned for exposing irregularities in government agencies and among politicians.
CSI LA posted Governor Veera’s order, dated April 21st, online. It appointed a Mr. Juncheng Zhu as his advisor, whose duties involved giving him advice and recommendations on matters which are important and useful for the provincial administration.
The webpage questioned the governor’s appointment, however, asking whether there were no Thai nationals who are qualified for the job.
CSI LA asked if there is any country that would allow a foreigner to be the advisor to one of its provincial governors. “This is not an ordinary appointment, because it is not just about the position, but about Chinese influence at the heart of the local administration,” said CSI LA.
CSI LA did not, however, provide any details about Juncheng Zhu, such as his background, his connections with government authorities or how long he has been living in Thailand.
The governor has now issued an order, dated April 29th, rescinding the appointment, claiming that it was inappropriate and might cause damage to the administration.
CSI-LA played a key role in exposing the luxury wristwatches seen worn by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan back in 2016.
