Bangkok police will summon woman to acknowledge a charge of indecent exposure for undressing in public, during a protest by the anti-government “Talufah” group at Nang Lerng intersection, near Government House on Tuesday.
Pol Maj-Gen Piya Tavichai, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said today (Wednesday) that the woman, identified as Worawan Sae Aung, aka “Pa Pao”, could face a fine of up to 5,000 baht if convicted, in accordance with Section 388 of the Criminal Code, for undressing in public to protest against the alleged harsh handling of the protesters.
He said that nine protesters were arrested in the Nang Lerng area of the capital, following a clash with anti-riot police, as they tried to break through a razor wire barricade to get to Government House, to demand the ouster of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Other demands of the “Talufah” group include a new constitution, drafted by the people, and reform of the monarchy.
A separate protest, held by the hard core “Talugas” group, took place in the Din Daeng area yesterday evening.
Pol Maj-Gen Piya said that some protesters went on a rampage, torching and damaging public property in the area. Eight police vehicles were damaged with two of them completely burned out.
He alleged that protesters had resorted to the use of Molotov cocktails against the police, instead of the usual firecrackers, flares, pipe bombs and sling shots.
While expecting more protests to be held at Nang Lerng and Din Daeng intersections, he warned that police will resort to harsher legal means to deal with violent protesters and their supporters, after having consulted with other law enforcement officials.
Since July this year, police have arrested 633 of the 878 protesters on their wanted list.
