Candidates from the Pheu Thai party lead in unofficial voting results of the Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) elections followed by Bhumjaithai Party.
Most of the votes have been counted in 47 provinces at 23:00 on election day, February 1st, early results for PAO chief executives are;
- Pheu Thai Party: 16 provinces
- Bhumjaithai Party: 12 provinces
- Independent candidates: 6 provinces
- Democrat Party: 4 provinces
- Chart Thai Pattana Party: 2 provinces
- Prachachat Party: 2 provinces
- Palang Pracharath Party: 1 province
- United Thai Nation Party: 1 province
- People’s Party: 1 province
Official results are yet to be confirmed by the Election Commsion.
Sorawong Thienthong, minister of tourism and sports, and secretary-general of the Pheu Thai party told reporters that he thanks every voters for “showing their trust in the Pheu Thai Party”.
He emphasises that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinwatra is ready to work with other political parties.
The Pheu Thai secretary-general also addresses concerns of potential selective treatments in PAOs that are not won by Pheu Thai candidates, “Pheu Thai may be defeated in some provinces but we still have our MPs, so everything can move forward together”.
There are 192 candidates for PAO chief executives, 6,815 candidates for council members, and 47,178,655 eligible voters in today’s elections.
