The main opposition People's Party launched a campaign today, ahead of the censure debate in parliament next week, accusing major political figures of selling out the country for their own benefit.
The campaign, called “Deal Laek Prathet” (Trading deals with the country), alleges that powerful figures make trade-offs for political deals at the expense of the Thai people, who are suffering significant losses.
One of the “deals” it mentioned alleges that “someone” was allowed to return home, apparently referring to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who came back after nearly two decades of self-imposed exile.
The party also questions the extent of the damage caused to Thailand by the deal to make Paetongtarn, Thaksin’s daughter, prime minister.
It also criticised Paetongtarn and the Pheu Thai Party for failing to deliver on many of their campaign promises, including the digital wallet scheme.
On its Facebook page, the party posted an illustration of Paetongtarn sitting on the debris of the Democracy Monument. She extends her hand towards a man holding puppet strings. Behind him are piles of money and a set of unbalanced scales.
