People's party Leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut has vowed to cleanse Thailand of organised online scam activities and bureaucratic corruption, if the party wins enough seats in parliament to enable him to become prime minister.
In his vision speech for Thailand yesterday, Natthaphong said that he believes that the Thai people share a common dream for a better future for their children and he is confident that they can effect changes in Thai society, if they cooperate with a determination for change.
He then talked about the party’s new economic policy, aimed at improving the people’s skills and productivity, creating opportunities for elderly people, introducing laws to increase Thailand’s competitiveness and fair trade in the world market and creating future industries, among others.
He said the government, under the leadership of the People party, will crack down on corruption in the government bureaucracy in earnest, reform the budgeting system, take steps to cope with the impacts of artificial intelligence and adhere to good governance and transparency.
Natthaphong also said that the party has a clear set of roles for the government in the international arena and has sufficient capable people to fill the right posts, if the party wins enough house seats to lead the government.
He then introduced the party’s three prime ministerial candidates, in order:
1. Himself
2. Sirikanya Tansakul
3. Veerayooth Kanchoochat
Veerayooth is currently the deputy party leader in charge of economic affairs. He graduated with a BA in Engineering and an MA in Economics from Chulalongkorn University, an MA and PhD in Development Economics from Cambridge University.
He taught at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo for 11 years and his last post was as an associate professor.
His extensive working experiences include the Overseas Development Institute in London, UNCTAD, the IMF and ESCAP, before joining the Future Forward party, the predecessor of Move Forward and People parties.
