About 12 opposition MPs have signed up to grill the Government over the 3.3 trillion baht budget bill, which is scheduled to be debated in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Opposition chief whip Mr. Suthin Klangsaeng said Tuesday that opposition MPs will question projects which they considered to be ambiguous, duplicating other work or unnecessary, such as road construction and maintenance and arms procurement.
Although the Defence Ministry claims to have cut back on procurement, Mr. Suthin said he found some expenditure unnecessary, under the present circumstances, while other procurement projects appear to favour certain arms dealers.
Pheu Thai party’s chief strategist, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan and key party members, meanwhile, have held a coaching session for their MPs who have expressed a wish to take part in the debate.
The Opposition is expected to focus on how the Government plans to spend the taxpayer’s money to reboot the national economy, devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and help the people, many of whom are already redundant, with more to join their ranks in the future.
The debate will last three days, but with a comfortable Government majority in the House, it will pass the first reading with ease.
