Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra faces a no-confidence motion in parliament today, with the opposition set to grill her over the underperforming economy, her lack of leadership, and the perceived influence of her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, on her administration.
The censure debate will continue until tomorrow, followed by a confidence vote in parliament on Wednesday.
11.10am – People’s Party MP Julapong Yuket stands up to accuse the premier of lacking honesty in governance for a long time and repeatedly. He also mentions that the PM has taken advantage of her father's political influence in the Alpine Golf Club case.
10am - Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, People’s party MP accused that before assuming office, Paetongtarn transferred her shares to her mother and sister.
However, there is no evidence that either of them paid taxes on these transactions. He accused Paetongtarn of alleging fabricating a simulated transaction to evade taxes.
“If even the prime minister engages in tax evasion, how can we expect tax fairness for the people?” he asked.
9.40am - Palang Pracharath party MP Pimporn Pronpruektiphan raised the issue of the premier's alleged tax evasion.
She presented series of charts to back up her statements.
9.35am - People’s party MP, Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, has the floor to grill PM Paetongtarn for her mismanagement, lack of leadership abilities, unable to ensure economic stability, and “tax evasion”. He has 70 minutes to deliver his statement.
9.25am - The premier then asked for an opportunity to speak in order to defend herself against the allegations. "I want to say that the allegations from the senior MP are not accurate and not true," she said before sitting down.
She apparently teased Prawit, who once made that statement during a no-confidence debate against him when he was deputy prime minister in Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s government.
9.15am - Palang Pracharath party leader, General Prawit Wongsuwan, delivers remarks criticising PM Paetongtarn, criticizing her for her failure to deliver economic policies. He has 10 minutes to deliver his statement
8.38am - Natthaphong begins the motion, criticizing Paetongtarn for lacking leadership, including policy corruption and failing to keep promises, among other issues.
8.20am - The parliament session on the no-confidence motion against the PM begins with House Speaker Wan Mohamad Noor Matha detailing the procedures and rules. He then invites opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut to take the floor.
