The no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will be held on March 24 and 25, with voting expected on March 26.
This is Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s first no-confidence debate and the opposition say it will focus on her alleged lack of leadership and the influence exerted upon her government by her father, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The opposition has been given 28 hours to question her, while the Cabinet and coalition parties have seven hours to respond and the House Speaker has two hours, opposition chief whip Pakornwut Udompipatskul said.
Pakornwut spoke after attending a two-hour meeting, chaired by Deputy House Speaker Pichet Chuamuangphan. Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri attended the meeting, representing the Cabinet.
"One important condition is that, if the opposition does not finish by 11.30pm, the debate will be allowed to continue past midnight. In that case, the voting will be delayed to March 27," according to Pakornwut.
This is because, according to the regulations, the vote must take place within 24 hours of the debate concluding.
At the same press conference, Manaporn said all sides have agreed to try to limit the length of the debate, so that it does not extend past midnight. If it does, it should not go beyond 5am.
