Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s next mobile cabinet meeting will be held in Songkhla’s border district of Sadao on February 18th, focusing on the flooding in the region.
In December last year, several southern provinces, including Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla, as well as the southernmost provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, experienced unexpectedly deep and widespread flooding.
Scores of people lost their lives, thousands of households were damaged and many residents were forced to evacuate from their homes.
The prime minister will also use the meeting as an opportunity to review development projects.
Urgent plans to be discussed include increasing the capacity of the U-Tapao canal from Ban Muang Kong to Sadao municipality office in Sadao district, which serves as the main path for watershed drainage, and expanding the storage capacity of the Sadao canal reservoir.
