Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow is paying a three-day working visit to India this weekend to discuss regional issues, including the upcoming election in Myanmar and online scams, according to an informed source.
The source said that during the November 29–December 2 visit, Sihasak will meet his counterpart S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to further strengthen their upgraded relations.
In April, the two countries elevated their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Thailand.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit comes as Bangkok and New Delhi deepen cooperation amid the fast-changing geopolitical landscape.
Besides Myanmar and regional issues, Sihasak will also highlight ongoing efforts to combat transnational crimes, especially online scams.
Thailand will host a major international conference on global partnerships to fight online fraud on December 17–18 in Bangkok. He will formally invite India to take part.
In New Delhi, he will hold discussions with leading Indian think tanks to exchange assessments of current strategic challenges, including great-power rivalry, emerging security risks, and ASEAN-related challenges.
The ministry reiterated that Thailand values India as a “global major player with the world’s highest economic growth rate,” while India views Thailand as a key partner in Southeast Asia.
Beyond geopolitics, Sihasak’s visit will highlight long-standing traditional Thailand–India ties — from shared historical and cultural foundations to expanding economic integration. Both sides are preparing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
Trade between the two countries reached US$7.5 billion last year, up 8.8 percent from 2023. India is currently Thailand’s 11th-largest trading partner and its largest in South Asia.
Last year, approximately 2.1 million Indian tourists visited Thailand.
